SEGA has released new details on the latest Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds update, confirming that Classic Sonic is joining the game today as part of Sonic’s 35th anniversary celebration.

The free Ver.1.4.1 update adds Classic Sonic as a playable racer, along with his original machine, the Mach Cyclone, giving players a new way to race as Sonic’s classic 90s form.

Classic Sonic will not be the only free racer joining the game. SEGA has also announced that Axel from the Crazy Taxi series will arrive in August 2026, followed by Amigo from Samba de Amigo in September 2026. Each character is planned to come with a special machine inspired by their respective series.

Alongside the free character update, SEGA has also revealed that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DLC Pack will launch for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 12:00 AM UTC. New live gameplay of the pack was shown during the announcement, giving fans another look at the crossover content ahead of release.

Ver.1.4.1 also expands Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds with several new gameplay and customization additions. The update includes eight new Gadgets, balance adjustments, bug fixes, support for Chinese voice audio, SEGA Account linking, updated staff credits, and new data tied to upcoming live content and the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds World Championship 2026.

The World Championship will be the game’s first global tournament. Qualifiers will determine the top 24 finalists, who will be invited to the world championship finals in New York on October 10, 2026.

Sonic’s 35th anniversary is also being celebrated with a special limited-time in-game event. The Sonic 35th Anniversary Festival will run from June 26 at 9:00 AM JST through June 29 at 8:59 AM JST. During the event, players will compete in online races split across three teams, earning Festival Points and unlocking special rewards such as stickers, horns, and other in-game items.

The update also adds 20 Sonic music tracks to the Jukebox, including songs from Sonic Mania, Sonic Superstars, and three new anniversary tracks. The newly announced 35th anniversary song “Speed Is My Life” is composed by Jun Senoue and performed by Nathan Sharp, also known as NateWantsToBattle. The Chinese version, “Here We Go ~ Run to the Future,” is written and performed by virtual artist Yousa Ling, while the Japanese version, “Onsoku wo Koete,” is arranged by Yunosuke and performed by Hatsune Miku (which will be released at a later date).

Several classic SEGA music tracks are also being added, including songs from Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure, Feel the Magic: XY/XX, The Rub Rabbits!, Burning Rangers, and Space Channel 5. The new additions continue CrossWorlds’ broader celebration of SEGA history, now extending beyond Sonic with music and racers from other classic franchises.

The update also adds 15 collaboration decals, including Dr. Squatch designs and Sonic 35th anniversary stickers. Players can use these decals through machine customization.

A new upgraded demo is also being released, adding the Extreme Gear machine to the trial version. The demo allows players to try Grand Prix, Time Trial, machine customization, and Gadget customization, with save data carrying over to the full game after purchase. SEGA notes that the demo update applies to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store versions.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is available now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
