An unidentified Steam game has surfaced with an achievement that should immediately catch the attention of Sonic fans: “Chaos Emerald.”
The achievement set belongs to Steam AppID 4911950, which currently has no publicly identified game attached to it. Among the objectives exposed through Steam backend data is one referring to obtaining a Chaos Emerald.
The name is obviously associated with Sonic the Hedgehog, where the Chaos Emeralds have been part of the series since the original game. The surrounding achievements, however, do not make the connection any clearer.
Other objectives refer to things such as blue diamonds and banshees, with the wider set sounding closer to a fantasy game, roguelike or deckbuilder than anything recognizably Sonic. There are no other obvious character names, locations or terms from the series in the currently exposed achievements.
That leaves open the possibility of a Sonic crossover or guest appearance, but there is nothing in the data yet that confirms one.
There is precedent for the wording appearing outside Sonic altogether. The unrelated 2019 action platformer Unruly Heroes has a Steam achievement named “Chaos Emerald” for finishing a level at emerald rank. It also has a “Master Emerald” achievement for earning emerald rank across every level, despite having no connection to SEGA’s franchise.
So the appearance of “Chaos Emerald” in AppID 4911950 is intriguing, but the phrase by itself cannot identify the mystery game.
Until a title, publisher or another Sonic-specific reference appears, AppID 4911950 remains exactly that: an unidentified Steam game with a suspiciously familiar achievement.
