SEGA SAMMY has shared new details about its game release plans for the current fiscal year, including four major full game titles from mainstay IPs.
In its newly uploaded financial results Q&A for the fiscal year ended March 2026, SEGA SAMMY stated that it plans to release four major full game titles during FY2027/3, which runs through March 2027. The company said these releases are currently concentrated in the second half of the fiscal year, which limits how much sales time they will have within the current reporting period.
SEGA SAMMY also noted that the titles are expected to be sold at or near full price. However, the company did not identify all four games in the Q&A, meaning fans should avoid assuming that an unannounced Sonic game is included unless SEGA confirms it directly.
The company also acknowledged that some titles have been pushed back to the following fiscal year due to development progress. SEGA SAMMY said longer development periods are one factor behind the lower number of new full game releases in recent years, especially as game scale continues to increase.
Q. In recent years, the number of new Full Game titles released appears lower than before. Is this due to longer development periods, or are you intentionally narrowing the lineup to titles with greater scale potential?
A. One factor is the longer development periods associated with increasing scale of titles. Under the current medium-term plan, we expect to release a large number of new titles from FY2027/3, and we plan to release four major titles this fiscal year. However, some titles have been pushed back to the following fiscal year due to development progress
Sonic was mentioned elsewhere in the Q&A as part of SEGA’s wider sales and community strategy. The company said it is preparing initiatives to coordinate pricing measures and promotions for catalogue titles when launching new entries from mainstay series such as Like a Dragon, Persona, and Sonic.
SEGA SAMMY also pointed to Sonic’s 35th anniversary as an opportunity to strengthen repeat sales of related titles. The company said FY2027/3 includes multiple anniversary initiatives, including Sonic’s 35th anniversary and Persona’s 30th anniversary, and that it plans to expand repeat sales across its IP alongside new title releases.
The Q&A also outlines a broader shift toward community-driven promotion. SEGA SAMMY said its community efforts have traditionally focused on new title sales, but going forward the company wants to connect those efforts with repeat sales, merchandise, and video adaptations. It also plans to support fan communities by providing official information and tracking related metrics as KPIs.
For Sonic fans, the main takeaway is that SEGA is continuing to treat Sonic as one of its key mainstay IPs during the franchise’s 35th anniversary year. However, the financial Q&A does not confirm a specific new Sonic title. It only confirms that Sonic is part of SEGA’s broader strategy for catalogue sales, anniversary initiatives, community activity, and cross-media growth.
The filing update itself was also tied to a correction. SEGA SAMMY said it had reuploaded several financial results documents after finding an error in the previously released FY2026/3 Results Presentation. The corrected item was on page 50 and related to figures in a Gaming Machine Sales graph, not the Entertainment Contents section covering Sonic and SEGA’s game plans.
With Sonic’s 35th anniversary now underway, SEGA appears to be using the milestone as part of a wider push across games, repeat sales, merchandise, video adaptations, and community engagement. Whether any of the four major full game releases will directly involve Sonic remains unconfirmed for now.
