Sonic and curry are apparently on the menu for the 35th anniversary.
Sonic the Hedgehog and Puyo Puyo are teaming up with Shimokitazawa Curry Festival 2026, bringing both SEGA series into one of Tokyo’s biggest annual food events with collaboration dishes, exclusive prizes and new anniversary artwork. The festival will run throughout Shimokitazawa from October 8 through October 25, spanning 18 days and 135 participating locations.

This year’s event marks the 15th edition of Shimokitazawa Curry Festival, which began in 2012 and now attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually. With Sonic and Puyo Puyo both celebrating their 35th anniversaries in 2026, organizers have brought the two SEGA series together for the festival’s main collaboration.
The newly revealed key visual puts Sonic alongside Arle and Carbuncle, with Shimokitazawa Curry Festival mascot Curry Man joining them for the occasion. Rings and Puyos are scattered around the characters, who have naturally brought their own plates of curry to the party.
The festival is even working both games into its 2026 slogan:
“So delicious it’ll wipe everything out!? Race around at supersonic speed! A curry chain festival across 135 Shimokitazawa shops!”
The wording combines Puyo Puyo’s chains and all-clears with Sonic’s speed, while also referring to the way visitors travel between participating businesses throughout Shimokitazawa.
And this is not just an anniversary visual slapped onto an existing food event.
Organizers have confirmed that special Sonic and Puyo Puyo collaboration menu items will be served at participating Shimokitazawa businesses during the festival. Exactly what Sonic-themed curry looks like remains a mystery for now, with the individual dishes and participating locations set to be revealed through the festival’s official website at a later date.

There should be plenty to choose from even before the Sonic dishes are revealed.
Of the festival’s 135 participating locations, 110 are restaurants offering curry dishes, up ten from the previous year. The lineup stretches beyond dedicated curry restaurants to cafés, bars, izakaya, soba and ramen restaurants, while another 21 businesses will serve spice-based or curry-inspired sweets. Four vintage clothing and hobby shops round out the participating locations.
The festival’s annual free stamp rally is also getting the Sonic and Puyo Puyo treatment.
Visitors can earn stamps by dining or shopping at participating businesses, then exchange them for prizes as their total increases. The first reward is available after only three stamps, while anyone determined enough to reach 25 stamps can collect all 12 reward tiers.
The final prize is where Sonic fans may want to start planning their curry route.
Collecting 25 stamps earns a Shimokitazawa Curry Festival 2026 exclusive T-shirt using the anniversary collaboration artwork, with Sonic, Arle, Carbuncle and Curry Man appearing together on the design. According to the organizers, the shirt will only be obtainable by participants who collect the required stamps during this year’s festival.

This is not the first time Sonic and Puyo Puyo have joined forces for their shared 35th anniversaries this year.
Sonic City previously covered the separate Soni × Puyo Festival at Hankyu Sanbangai in Osaka, which ran from February through March with anniversary decorations, themed food bonuses, stamp rallies, game events and exclusive merchandise. The Shimokitazawa Curry Festival is an entirely separate collaboration, this time spreading the celebration across businesses throughout one of Tokyo’s best-known food and culture districts.
Shimokitazawa Curry Festival itself does not take place inside a single dedicated venue. Participating restaurants and shops effectively become the festival grounds, encouraging visitors to move around the neighborhood while trying different dishes and collecting stamps. The organizers describe it as one of Shimokitazawa’s autumn traditions, with the festival returning for its 15th year in 2026.
There will also be a first-ever opening ceremony on October 7, one day before the festival officially begins, featuring talks and live performances at a Shimokitazawa live house. Further activities are planned at Link Park throughout the festival period.
For now, the biggest remaining question for us is obvious:
What exactly does Sonic curry taste like?
We will apparently find out soon.
Shimokitazawa Curry Festival 2026 runs from October 8 through October 25, 2026, across 135 participating locations around Shimokitazawa in Tokyo. Details of the Sonic and Puyo Puyo collaboration menus will be announced at a later date.
