SEGA is bringing Sonic’s 35th anniversary celebrations to the streets of London with Sonic Speed Circuit, a new running route inspired by the Blue Blur himself.
The activation has launched in Shoreditch, where fans can follow a 10km route mapped in the shape of Sonic the Hedgehog. The route begins on Ebor Street and takes runners through several East London streets, blending fitness, street art, and Sonic’s legacy into one real-world anniversary event.

The project also explains the Sonic mural recently spotted in East London. While some fans initially wondered if the artwork could be teasing a new game announcement, SEGA has now confirmed that the mural is part of Sonic Speed Circuit.
Along the route, visitors can find seven large-scale Sonic murals created for the campaign. The artwork will be displayed from June 1 through June 28, with locations including 30 Redchurch Street, Holywell Lane, Great Eastern Wall, and Ebor Street.
For fans who want to see the murals without completing the full 10km run, SEGA has also created a shorter 500-metre route that highlights all of the artwork.
The campaign is tied to new research commissioned by SEGA about running habits among millennials, the first generation to grow up alongside Sonic. According to the findings, 46 percent of millennials go for a run at least once a week, while 62 percent believe it is never too late to start running. The research also found that 21 percent of millennials named Sonic as their ideal running partner, placing him ahead of other famous speedsters such as The Flash, Road Runner, and Quicksilver.
Jamie Turner, Head of Brand Marketing and Partnerships at SEGA, said the anniversary created a fitting opportunity to connect Sonic’s themes of speed, adventure, and self-improvement with running culture. The route is designed to bring fans together through movement, community participation, and playful competition while surrounding them with Sonic-themed artwork.
Fans who complete the Sonic Speed Circuit during June can enter a prize draw for exclusive 35th anniversary Sonic merchandise. Prizes include Sonic water bottles, running socks, pin badges, and limited-edition mural prints.
Participants can join through the Sonic Speed Circuit Run Club on Strava. To be eligible, runners must complete the route between June 5 and June 28, share their completed activity in the Strava club, and post on Instagram with the hashtag #SonicSpeedCircuit. The Strava listing also notes that participants should follow Hope&Glory, the Sonic Speed Circuit Run Club admin, to be eligible for the prize draw.
With Sonic-shaped running routes, anniversary murals, and limited-time prizes, Sonic Speed Circuit gives fans in London a different way to celebrate Sonic’s 35th anniversary beyond games, concerts, merchandise, and events.
