Sonic series sound director Tomoya Ohtani has addressed fan questions about why “Endless Possibility” is not included in the streaming version of Forever Fast – 35th Anniversary of Sonic The Hedgehog.
In a post on Twitter, Ohtani explained that the situation comes down to rights surrounding the original master recording. According to Ohtani, SEGA does not hold the master rights to “Endless Possibility,” though it does hold half of the song’s copyright. The arrangement dates back to the production of Sonic Unleashed, known in Japan as Sonic World Adventure, in 2008.
Ohtani said SEGA’s licensing team worked with the relevant parties for the 35th anniversary album and was able to secure permission to include the original version of “Endless Possibility” on the CD release. However, due to business practice-related circumstances, the same approval was not secured for digital distribution.

The album also has the added title of “(Selected Edition)” due to this
He also acknowledged that this explanation may not fully ease the disappointment of fans who wanted to hear the original version through streaming services. Ohtani said he personally feels disappointed as well, but described the issue as a decision made within the framework of rights and music business practices rather than a simple creative choice.
For fans picking up the physical album, Ohtani noted that the original version of “Endless Possibility” included on the CD has been newly mastered for this release, improving the sound quality for the anniversary collection.
Ohtani also touched on the possibility of a future arrangement of the song. While he could not make any specific promises, he said there is a chance an arranged version could be produced someday if the opportunity arises.
In a follow-up post, Ohtani also reassured fans about the song’s use within Sonic Unleashed itself. He explained that SEGA received permanent permission to use the original master recording of “Endless Possibility” in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic World Adventure, including on future platforms. Because of that, if Sonic Unleashed is ever ported in the future, the original version of “Endless Possibility” should remain in the game.
The clarification gives fans a better understanding of why one of Sonic Unleashed’s most beloved songs has a different situation on the Forever Fast digital release compared to the CD version. While the streaming omission remains disappointing for many, Ohtani’s comments confirm that the issue is tied to music rights rather than SEGA intentionally leaving the song out.
Forever Fast – 35th Anniversary of Sonic The Hedgehog is part of SEGA’s wider 35th anniversary music celebration, collecting vocal themes from across Sonic’s modern history.
