Balenciaga and SEGA have teamed up for a new fashion collection, and Sonic is front and center across much of it.
The Balenciaga | SEGA collaboration launched today, September 15, at selected Balenciaga stores and online in Japan. Among the first pieces are a Japan-exclusive varsity jacket and long-sleeved T-shirt featuring artwork that mixes Balenciaga branding with SEGA and Sonic imagery. The collection expands worldwide through selected Balenciaga stores and Balenciaga.com on September 22.
The wider Sonic range includes nylon bomber jackets, oversized T-shirts, zip-up hoodies and brimmed caps. The artwork goes well beyond a small character logo: some pieces use Sonic’s name in heavy-metal-style lettering alongside Balenciaga logos rendered in a SEGA-inspired typeface, while another design depicts Sonic bursting from a screen as a hologram wearing Balenciaga Jet Sneakers.
And yes, these are very much Balenciaga prices. In Japan, the Sonic varsity jacket is listed at ¥532,000, while the oversized zip-up hoodie costs ¥256,000. The Sonic long-sleeved oversized T-shirt is ¥142,000, the short-sleeved version is ¥122,000, and the cap comes in at ¥83,000, all including tax.
The individual Balenciaga product pages also show a few details not called out in the initial announcement. The Sonic hoodie uses the hologram artwork across its sleeves and back, for example, while the varsity jacket has embroidered Sonic and Balenciaga artwork across the chest and back. The Sonic pieces also carry embedded NFC chips linked to Balenciaga’s Digital Product Card system for authentication and digital content.
The collaboration extends beyond clothing at Balenciaga’s Tokyo Aoyama flagship, where two vintage SEGA Blast City arcade cabinets have been installed for the launch. One is fully playable and runs Sonic the Fighters, SEGA’s 1996 arcade fighting game, while the second sits in the storefront window.
Balenciaga is tying the launch to Tokyo Game Show 2026, which begins later this week, bringing the fashion collaboration into the middle of an already packed stretch of SEGA and Sonic activity in Japan.
The Balenciaga | SEGA collection is available now through selected Balenciaga locations and online in Japan, with the wider international release set for September 22.
