Sonic Named Tokyo Sunrockers Support Ambassador for 2026-27 Season

Sonic the Hedgehog has officially joined Tokyo Sunrockers for the 2026-27 season, taking on a new role as the basketball club’s support ambassador.

Tokyo Sunrockers announced the partnership on September 24 as ACTION 36 of its “MOVE TOKYO. 36 ACTIONS” campaign. Sonic will support the club throughout its first season in B.LEAGUE PREMIER, appearing across home games, promotions and social campaigns.

The announcement also comes with new collaboration artwork showing Sonic wearing the Tokyo Sunrockers uniform, complete with his familiar number 91. The artwork will be used throughout the partnership as the club rolls out additional Sonic activities during the season.

Sonic is also coming to TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO. The club says he will appear in displays on the arena’s screens, while additional collaboration events are planned throughout the year. Sonic is currently scheduled to attend the Sunrockers’ home games against the Akita Northern Happinets on October 3 and 4. Collaboration merchandise is also in development.

This is not Sonic’s first time on the court with the club. Tokyo Sunrockers says the two have previously worked together on Sonic-themed third uniforms and Sonic appearances at home games. Earlier this year, the then-Sunrockers Shibuya also used a special Sonic animation at TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO whenever the team successfully completed a fast break, pairing the speed of the play with Sonic’s own supersonic speed.

The relationship also has a direct corporate connection. The basketball club joined the SEGA SAMMY Group in 2022, giving Sonic and the Sunrockers a natural reason to keep finding increasingly elaborate ways to cross over.

The 2026-27 season takes that relationship considerably further. Instead of appearing for a single game or on a special uniform, Sonic will now be tied to the club across the season as its official support ambassador.
