Well, that answers another question.

Epic Games has released the dedicated Fortnite: Override Battle Pass Highlights trailer, officially confirming that Sonic the Hedgehog is included in the Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass when the new season launches on August 20. More specifically, Sonic sits at Level 85, making him the final major character unlock in the standard Battle Pass progression.

That is an important distinction from what we knew yesterday. Our coverage of the full Override season trailer noted reports that Sonic would be included in the Battle Pass, but Epic had not actually confirmed how players would obtain him at the time. The new Battle Pass reveal turns that report into official information and, thankfully, means Sonic fans will not have to sit around waiting for him to randomly appear in the Item Shop.

The progression shown for the new pass places Geno at Level 60 and Sonic at Level 85, with Sonic occupying the last character slot. Despite Override bringing in a frankly absurd collection of gaming collaborations, Sonic is also the only outside gaming character included directly in the standard Battle Pass lineup shown so far. The likes of Mega Man, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Persona 5, Pac-Man and the season’s other collaborations are being handled separately.

That makes Sonic’s placement particularly prominent. The crossover has already received its own Green Hill-inspired area, multiple teasers and a complete Fortnite x Sonic the Hedgehog comic explaining why Sonic suddenly has the proportions required to participate in a Battle Royale without looking like someone accidentally scaled his original model to 180 percent. Now Epic is putting him at the end of the Battle Pass progression as well.

The new trailer itself was created in partnership with Studio 64 Bits, the animation team known for its elaborate video game-inspired shorts. Epic’s promotion describes the Battle Pass video as following Jonesy through alternate realities as gaming characters join together against Geno, with the season launching later this week.

One thing the Battle Pass trailer does not settle is where Shadow and Knuckles fit into the cosmetic rollout. The official crossover comic established Fortnite-compatible robotic counterparts for Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles, but only Sonic appears in the Battle Pass lineup. That leaves the other two characters’ exact availability to be announced separately, rather than giving us enough evidence to simply declare them Item Shop skins.

Tails is similarly being handled differently, with Epic’s earlier teaser strongly pointing toward him appearing as a Sidekick instead of receiving the same playable Outfit treatment. Between Sonic at Level 85, Tails apparently accompanying players as a Sidekick, and Shadow and Knuckles still waiting for their distribution details, there is clearly more of this collaboration left for Epic and SEGA to reveal.

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override launches on August 20, 2026.

So if you want Long Sonic, you now know what to do.

Get grinding.
