Well, there we have it.
The mysterious collaboration comic handed out during today’s Sonic’s Chaos Hunt event in New York City is officially Fortnite x Sonic the Hedgehog, and it has finally answered one of the biggest questions surrounding the crossover.
Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles are coming to Fortnite.
The one-shot was first distributed physically to attendees at the August 15 event before Sonic’s official social accounts published the complete story online. It features Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow facing a new threat involving Dr. Eggman and Fortnite’s Geno, while also providing an in-universe explanation for those rather unusual Fortnite versions of the characters.
You can read the complete comic below:

More importantly, the comic makes the purpose of those designs pretty clear. The tall mechanical versions of Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles are the forms being sent into the world of Fortnite, with the story ending by carrying the action directly onto the battlefield. Tails, meanwhile, has a separate role in the story, which fits particularly nicely with yesterday’s official teaser strongly pointing toward him appearing as a Sidekick rather than receiving the same treatment as the other three.
This also makes the supposedly questionable Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override image that surfaced earlier today a lot more interesting. We were skeptical of it because of several obvious visual problems and because its original source claimed it was AI-generated, but the strange mechanical Sonic design shown there has now appeared in official crossover material.
The comic also finally reveals what SEGA meant when it promised an exclusive collaboration comic for the New York Chaos Hunt. When Sonic City covered the event beforehand, neither the partner nor the contents of the comic had been disclosed. Apparently, SEGA was casually sitting on the story setup for Sonic’s Fortnite debut.
The one-shot features script and lettering by Evan Stanley (@SpiritSonic), line art by @ARQ004SP, colors by @deegeemin, and cover artwork by Tyler McGrath (@Tyler_J_McGrath).
There are still details for Epic and SEGA to reveal, including exactly how the Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles cosmetics will be obtained, their accompanying items, and the full implementation of Tails. But after months of rumors followed by increasingly obvious teasers, the character lineup is finally coming together.
Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles are heading into Fortnite.
And if you want to know why Sonic suddenly has legs that long, well…
