Japan’s official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel has released a new brand video celebrating Sonic’s 35th birthday.
The video arrives as Sonic’s 35th anniversary rollout continues, marking another milestone for SEGA’s long-running mascot since his debut in 1991.
Rather than focusing on a specific game, product, or event, the new video presents Sonic as a symbol of moving forward. Its message centers on challenge, change, and the idea that nothing begins unless someone takes the first step.
The narration reflects on an uncertain world where there may never be a perfect time, anything eternal, or anything absolute. Even so, it points to one thing that can still be trusted: the present moment when a person’s own feet kick against the ground.
The video continues by describing how people begin running while carrying loneliness, anxiety, and feelings they cannot easily place. From there, the message becomes more direct, encouraging viewers to run toward whatever makes their heart tremble and to live in the now rather than waiting for “someday.”
The key line of the video is simple and fitting for Sonic: “Nothing begins unless you start running,” a direct callback to a quote from Sonic 06.
The message lines up closely with Sonic’s identity across the series. For 35 years, Sonic has been defined not only by speed, but by freedom, forward momentum, confidence, and the willingness to face whatever comes next without standing still.
