Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is gearing up for a massive second year, with Final Fantasy VII, Persona, Sanrio and more joining its growing lineup of collaborations, alongside a brand-new Duel Mode, Super Shadow and a major upgrade to the Gadget system!

SEGA unveiled the complete Year Two roadmap during the game’s World Championship Finals on October 9, confirming that the next wave of updates will officially begin on November 3, 2026. The presentation revealed all six Season Pass Two crossover packs, new free content, machines inspired by SEGA’s classic consoles and permanent price reductions for the game.

The announcements followed an exciting conclusion to the World Championship, where Exponso from Mexico was crowned World Champion after four hours of racing in New York City. More than 40,000 players worldwide had competed in the summer qualifiers, with 24 finalists representing countries including Japan, the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, France and Spain.

Six DLC packs coming to Season Pass Two

SEGA has now revealed the complete Season Pass Two lineup, confirming four previously unannounced collaborations alongside the Godzilla and EVANGELION packs revealed earlier this year.

The Godzilla Pack kicks things off on November 3, 2026, bringing the Godzilla Escape course and three new machines: the Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe and Mothra Surf. The collaboration also includes additional Jukebox music and sounds.

The EVANGELION Pack follows in January 2027, adding Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley as playable racers, alongside the Tokyo-III course.

Three machines inspired by the anime’s Evangelion units will also be included: EVA-01 (TEST TYPE), EVA-00 (PROTO TYPE) and EVA-02 (PRODUCTION MODEL). Additional Jukebox music, character emotes and sounds complete the pack.

Sanrio joins the lineup in Q2 2027 with the Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack, introducing Hello Kitty and Kuromi as playable racers. The pack includes the Virtual Sanrio Puroland course, Hello Kitty Apple Kart and Kuromi Charming Cruiser, along with additional music, emotes and sounds.

SEGA has confirmed that the Virtual Sanrio Puroland course will not support Mirror Mode, while the two included machines will not allow individual part customization.

The SEGALAND Pack arrives in Q3 2027, celebrating SEGA’s arcade history with a new SEGALAND course and three machines named After Burner, OutRun and Super Megalo. Additional Jukebox music and sounds are also included.

Two more collaborations round out the season.

The FINAL FANTASY VII Remake series will join CrossWorlds through the Midgar Pack, currently a working title, scheduled for Q3 2027. SEGA has confirmed that it will include two racers, one machine and a course, with additional music, emotes and sounds. The identities of its playable characters have yet to be announced.

Finally, the Reload Revival Royal Pack will bring another Persona collaboration to the game in Q4 2027. The pack is confirmed to include two racers, two machines and a course, alongside additional Jukebox tracks, character emotes and sounds.

Duel Mode introduces one-on-one racing

One of Year Two’s biggest gameplay additions is Duel Mode, a new competitive format built around direct one-on-one races.

The mode introduces a mechanic called Duel Boost, which allows players to build up a gauge throughout the race and unleash powerful bursts of speed. The gauge fills gradually over time, with frequent item usage providing additional charge.

Players will also be able to monitor their opponent’s items, Gadgets and race position, bringing a new layer of strategy to offensive and defensive play.

Duel Mode will offer four different ways to compete:

  • Rival Duel: Offline races against CPU rivals, including free and owned paid DLC characters. Defeating every rival will unlock rewards, including a special machine.
  • Duel Match (Free Match): Online one-on-one races against randomly matched opponents.
  • Duel Match (Best-of-10): Limited-time competitive events featuring special rules, Duel Class rankings and Medal rewards.
  • Friend Match: Online races against friends with customizable rules, items and CrossWorlds.

Grand Master Plate expands Gadget customization

The Gadget system is also receiving a substantial upgrade with the Grand Master Plate, introducing a seventh position known as the Super Slot.

This new slot is reserved for one-slot Gadgets, further amplifying their enhanced effects and allowing players to experiment with additional combinations.

SEGA has demonstrated several of the new possibilities, including Damage Evolution, which increases all stats by 10 when taking damage, and Collision Evolution, which raises all stats by 2 when colliding with another machine.

The November 3 update will also introduce 15 new Gadgets, with more scheduled for later updates.

Another change will allow post-launch free characters and owned paid DLC racers to appear as CPU opponents in both online and offline modes.

The gameplay additions follow creative director Masaru Kohayakawa’s recent comments about a particularly large update to CrossWorlds’ specifications during its second year.

Bayonetta, McLaren Racing and Aigis lead the free content

SEGA has also detailed the first three free additions planned for Year Two, beginning with Bayonetta on November 3.

The Umbra Witch was previously announced as the first free Year Two racer, complete with the Butterfly Witch machine, special emotes and sounds. Players will now be able to unlock her by completing Rival Duel matches.

McLaren Racing will follow later in November with a new Speed-type machine modeled after a real racing car, featuring the team’s recognizable Papaya and Anthracite livery.

In early 2027, Aigis from Persona 3 will join the roster alongside the Palladion Dressy, a new Acceleration-type machine.

Each free character release will be followed by a themed Limited Time Event Festival, offering additional rewards through participation and victories. New Festivals will run for ten consecutive days, while previous events will return for shorter periods.

SEGA console machines and Super Shadow join the bonuses

Season Pass Two will also introduce two bonus content packs celebrating SEGA’s hardware history.

The SEGA Controllers Decal Pack became available on October 9, featuring four designs based on the Genesis controller, SEGA Saturn controller, Dreamcast controller and Dreamcast Visual Memory Unit.

On November 3, the SEGA Consoles Pack will add three machines modeled after the company’s classic hardware: Genesis Tower US, SegaSaturn JP and Dreamcast EU.

Players who own both Season Pass One and Season Pass Two will receive another bonus beginning November 3: Super Shadow and the Super Dark Flare machine.

SEGA’s Japanese announcement also lists a Super Shadow decal and specifies that Super Shadow is limited to Grand Prix Mode.

CrossWorlds receives permanent price cuts and new editions

Alongside the Year Two roadmap, SEGA has permanently reduced the US digital prices of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

The Standard Edition now costs $39.99 USD, down from $69.99, while the original Digital Deluxe Edition has dropped to $59.99, previously $89.99.

Season Pass Two is available now for $29.99 USD, including all six premium DLC packs and the SEGA Controllers Decal Pack and SEGA Consoles Pack bonuses.

A new Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition is also available for $59.99 USD, bundling the base game with Season Pass Two. Existing CrossWorlds owners can purchase the pass separately without buying another copy of the game.

For physical collectors, SEGA is introducing a Year One Edition priced at $59.99 USD at select retailers. It includes the Standard Edition, Season Pass One, a reversible Sonic 35th Anniversary cover and a commemorative logo patch.

These announcements arrive as CrossWorlds completes its first World Championship, with Exponso claiming the title after months of international competition.

Year Two officially begins on November 3, 2026, with the next wave of content scheduled to continue throughout 2027.
