Sonic is taking the stage for his 35th anniversary.
A new character trailer has been released for Idol Sonic, a music-themed outfit coming to Sonic Forces: Speed Battle on June 18. The new look turns the Blue Blur into a full-on performer, complete with stage lights, flashy effects, and a whole lot of anniversary energy.
The trailer shows Idol Sonic racing through familiar Speed Battle tracks while using his abilities. Final Chorus is described as a move that can “silence your rivals,” while Amp it Up can block and push back your opponents with a blast of music, and Light Show lets Idol Sonic “take center stage and speed ahead,” giving Idol Sonic a boost of speed damaging players on neighbhouring lanes.
It is a fitting addition for Sonic’s 35th anniversary, especially with music playing such a big role in this year’s celebrations. Between anniversary albums, live concerts, and now a stage-ready Sonic outfit in Speed Battle, SEGA is clearly leaning into the franchise’s long-running connection to music and performance.
Idol Sonic will arrive in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle on June 18. Further details on his event availability and unlock requirements have not yet been shared in the trailer.
