SEGA and Nex have announced a new Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration for Nex Playground, bringing Sonic Forces to the active play console later this year.

The game, currently titled Sonic Forces, was shown during Sonic’s 35th Anniversary Birthday Livestream and is being designed as a more physical way to experience Sonic’s speed. Nex Playground uses motion-based gameplay to get players moving, turning the game into an active play experience for families and friends.

According to Nex, the project was created in response to strong demand from the Nex Playground community and is part of Sonic’s 35th anniversary celebrations.

David Lee, CEO and Co-Founder of Nex, said the arrival of Sonic on Nex Playground is a major moment for the platform and supports the company’s goal of connecting families and friends through active play. He also described Sonic Forces as a way to translate the popular mobile title into a physical experience.

Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer at SEGA of America, also commented on the partnership, saying that bringing Sonic to Nex Playground is a natural extension of the franchise’s focus on speed and fun. He added that HARDlight Studios is working to deliver an engaging new way for families to connect with Sonic.

Sonic Forces is being developed by SEGA HARDlight, the studio behind several Sonic mobile titles, including Sonic Dream Team, Sonic Dash, and Sonic Forces. The Nex Playground version will reimagine Sonic’s running and action gameplay for the platform, with an emphasis on replayable movement-based play.

The game will be available later this year through Play Pass, Nex Playground’s separate content subscription. Play Pass currently offers more than 60 active games across sports, dance, fitness, and educational categories.

Nex is also running a Prime Day promotion beginning June 23, with 20% off the Nex Playground unit through Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and Sam’s Club. During the promotion, Prime members can also get 20% off a bundle that includes the Nex Playground, Travel Case, and a 12-month Play Pass subscription.

With Sonic Forces, SEGA and Nex are bringing Sonic into the active play space, giving families a new way to move, race, and play together later this year.
