Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is reportedly heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on June 23, 2026, according to new information shared ahead of an official announcement.
The date would be a fitting one for the release, as June 23 marks Sonic the Hedgehog’s anniversary. Sonic Frontiers first launched in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, before receiving several free post-launch updates that expanded the game with new challenges, story content, and playable characters.
The existence of Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition first surfaced earlier this year through a rating from the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea, a source that has previously revealed upcoming Sonic releases before their official announcements.
According to new reporting Dealabs Magazine, Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is planned for Nintendo Switch 2 and will receive a physical edition. The outlet also reports that the U.S. price for the Switch 2 version will be $49.99.
At this stage, SEGA has not officially announced Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition, and it remains unclear whether the updated release will also come to PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or the original Nintendo Switch. The contents of the Definitive Edition have also not been confirmed.
The reported $49.99 price point is notable, as it would be lower than the current $59.99 standard price for the original Nintendo Switch version. Sonic Frontiers also recently received a permanent price drop on PC, with the standard edition lowered to $39.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition lowered to $49.99 on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
For now, the Nintendo Switch 2 version, physical release, price, and release date should be treated as unofficial until SEGA confirms the title. However, with Sonic’s anniversary approaching and the Korean rating already pointing to a new version of the game, an announcement may not be far off.
