IDW Announces Spooky Amy Rose One-Shot and Tails Special, Confirms Sonic Will Continue Beyond Issue #100

Amy Rose is getting a new IDW comic special with a spooky twist, and Tails has a special of his own on the way! The announcements come from the latest Super Sonic Monthly Q&A at AIPT, where IDW’s editorial team also shared some big hints about the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog #100 and confirmed that the series will continue well beyond its milestone issue.

Amy’s new one-shot is scheduled to arrive in March 2027, with the editors describing it as a “slightly spooky” adventure. No further details about the story or creative team were shared, but IDW is hoping to produce more character-focused specials in the future.

Tails is next in line for some extra attention, too. Responding to a fan who noticed his prominence in recent cover artwork, the editorial team confirmed that he’ll have an important part to play in the ongoing storyline alongside a separate special dedicated to him. Details about that comic, including its release date, are being kept under wraps.

And for anyone wondering what happens after Sonic the Hedgehog reaches its 100th issue, there’s good news. IDW has confirmed that the ongoing series will continue with a brand-new adventure beginning in issue #101, with several additional miniseries also planned.

Before that happens, though, the Road to #100 still has plenty in store. Silver and Blaze, whose adventure in issues #89–91 has been an important part of the ongoing mystery, will return from issue #97 onward as the larger story begins revealing its secrets.

The editorial team also confirmed that characters who have participated in the Road to #100 will have important roles in the final confrontation. That includes Tangle and Whisper, who are currently preparing for their own storyline beginning in issue #92.

As for what the big showdown actually involves, IDW offered a particularly strange collection of hints: mist, an organ being played, and another flying ship crashing. Make of that what you will!

There were a few other interesting character updates. Trip the Sungazer will continue appearing in future Sonic comics, particularly the character-focused specials. The editors also expressed interest in bringing Tangle and Surge together for an adventure, although no such storyline has been announced.

And in one of the more amusing exchanges, writer Ian Flynn revealed that Kit’s favourite food is essentially whatever Surge tells him it is, except mint candy. Apparently, his dislike of the sweet comes down to one simple reason: Tails loves it.

Alongside the Q&A, AIPT has published two exclusive comic previews. The first offers an early look at Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #4, which arrives on November 11, as Sonic and his friends continue their battle against the King of the Monsters.

The second previews Sonic the Hedgehog #92, scheduled for December 9, where Tangle and Whisper’s next adventure takes a disturbing turn as a mysterious fog spreads through Spiral Hill.
