Sonic and Tails have another giant problem on their hands, and this time they’re dodging a barrage of missiles from Mechagodzilla.
A new retailer-exclusive cover for Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #3 has been revealed by Comics to Astonish, with artwork by Matt Herms depicting the two heroes caught in the middle of an explosive encounter with the mechanical kaiju.
The illustration shows Sonic and Tails dodging Mechagodzilla’s incoming missiles as the monster emerges through smoke and flames behind them. The pair are surrounded by explosions, with Mechagodzilla continuing its attack from below.
This is the third Sonic x Godzilla retailer-exclusive cover produced for Comics to Astonish, following Herms’ variants for the first two issues. Both earlier releases were limited to 500 copies, although a total print quantity for the new edition has not been confirmed.
The new variant is available to order for $20 directly from Comics to Astonish, with the retailer’s website showing 47 copies in stock at the time of writing.
Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #3 arrives on October 14, 2026, continuing the five-part IDW crossover written by Nick Marino with interior artwork by Jack Lawrence.
The upcoming chapter finds Sonic and his friends struggling to contain the destruction caused by the invading kaiju, while Shadow’s arrival interrupts Dr. Eggman’s research just as Operation Dark Future approaches completion.
As Sonic City previously reported, Mechagodzilla played a major role in the second issue, with Eggman taking a particular interest in the fallen mechanical monster and its technology.
The new Matt Herms exclusive is available separately from the regular $4.99 edition of issue #3, giving collectors another cover option ahead of next week’s release.
