Sonic Frontiers has officially found its flame at five million.
SEGA has announced that Sonic Frontiers has now surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, marking another major milestone for the 2022 open-zone Sonic adventure.
The company celebrated the achievement with a message thanking players for helping the game reach the new figure:
“We’ve Found Our Flame, and it’s you! Thank you for helping Sonic Frontiers surpass 5 MILLION copies sold!”
Sonic City previously reported in June that Sonic Frontiers had reached 4.94 million units worldwide, according to figures published by SEGA Sammy. That left the game just 60,000 copies away from the five million mark, which it has now officially crossed.
And SEGA is marking the occasion with a little something for players.

The alternate footwear recreates Sonic’s Soap-branded grinding shoes from Sonic Adventure 2, replacing his regular shoes while leaving the rest of his appearance intact.
Longtime Sonic City readers may remember that the SOAP Shoes originally appeared as a special Sonic Frontiers DLC offer back in 2022. At the time, players had to subscribe to the official Sonic Frontiers newsletter to receive a download code, with the promotion ending on January 31, 2023.
That made the shoes considerably harder for newer players to obtain once the original promotion ended.
Now, more than three years later, SEGA is opening them up to everyone.
The milestone also comes shortly after Sonic City reported that Sonic Frontiers had reached 4.94 million copies, alongside updated sales figures for Sonic X Shadow Generations, Team Sonic Racing, and Sonic Superstars.
Frontiers has continued to remain relevant well beyond its original November 2022 launch. The game received several substantial free updates after release, eventually adding features including the Spin Dash and The Final Horizon, while director Morio Kishimoto has recently returned to discussing the game through his ongoing column series.
More importantly for Sonic’s future, Kishimoto recently confirmed that Sonic Team still sees considerable potential in the open-zone concept introduced by Frontiers and intends to evolve those ideas further in the next title.
Five million copies certainly gives the team a pretty solid argument for doing exactly that.
For anyone returning to the Starfall Islands to celebrate the milestone, at least Sonic can now do it in the appropriate footwear.
Those rails are not going to grind themselves.
