Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition has received a PEGI rating in Europe for Nintendo Switch 2, adding another major sign that SEGA is preparing to officially reveal the updated release.
The PEGI listing gives Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition an age rating of 7, citing violence and fear as content descriptors. The platform is listed as Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of June 22, 2026.

At the time of writing, SEGA has not yet formally announced Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition. However, the new European rating follows earlier signs that the open-zone Sonic title was being prepared for Nintendo Switch 2, including previous ratings and reports pointing to an updated release.
A reveal is reportedly expected by June 23, which would line up with Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary. That timing would make the announcement especially fitting, as Sonic Frontiers remains one of the franchise’s most important modern releases.
Sonic Frontiers first launched in 2022 and later received several free updates, including new challenges, Photo Mode, the Spin Dash, Birthday Bash content, and The Final Horizon update, which added new story content and playable versions of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.
It is not yet confirmed what Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition will include, whether it will feature Nintendo Switch 2-specific improvements, or if it will release on additional platforms. However, copies of the game have already been spotted at retailers such as Walmart. Fans have reportedly attempted to purchase them, but stores have been unable to complete sales until June 23, suggesting SEGA may be preparing a Sonic birthday release or possible shadow drop.
