Colleen O’Shaughnessey Begins Recording Tails Lines for Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Colleen O’Shaughnessey has officially started recording her lines for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

The voice of Tails shared several photos from the recording studio, writing, “Fun times in the studio today!! Next March can’t come soon enough!!!” The post was accompanied by emojis referencing Tails, Sonic, Amy, Shadow, and Knuckles, pointing to the major characters expected to appear in the next movie.

The update confirms that O’Shaughnessey has now begun her voice work for Tails after previously saying she expected to start recording around this period. Her return continues one of the Sonic movie series’ longest-running voice roles, with O’Shaughnessey having voiced Tails since the character’s full debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Her recording session follows Ben Schwartz’s recent confirmation that voice recording for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 had begun. Schwartz, who voices Sonic, shared his own studio update earlier this week, telling fans he was excited for them to see the movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 recently wrapped filming, with director Jeff Fowler marking the milestone by sharing a behind-the-scenes photo featuring a practical Metal Sonic stand-in. The film is now moving deeper into post-production, where the live-action footage will be combined with CG animation, visual effects, and voice performances for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, and the rest of the cast.

The next film is expected to continue the story teased at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which introduced Amy Rose and Metal Sonic as major new additions to the movie universe. A recent copyright preregistration also described the film’s setup as Sonic being joined by a new hero named Amy while facing “a new technological nemesis known as Metal Sonic.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is currently scheduled to release in theaters on March 19, 2027. With both live-action filming complete and voice recording now underway for key returning cast members, the next chapter of Paramount and SEGA’s movie franchise is steadily racing toward release.
