Ben Schwartz Confirms Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Voice Recording Has Begun

Voice recording for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has officially begun.

Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic in Paramount’s live-action movie series, shared the update on Instagram, posting a photo from the recording studio and writing, “Voice records for Sonic 4 have begun! I. Am. So. Excited. For. You. To. See. This. Movie.”

The update confirms that the film has now entered another key stage of production following the completion of live-action filming. Director Jeff Fowler previously announced that filming had wrapped, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo featuring a practical Metal Sonic stand-in. We recently covered that milestone, which gave fans their clearest look yet at the movie’s robotic rival.

Voice recording beginning now also lines up with Colleen O’Shaughnessey’s recent comments that she expected to start recording Tails’ lines around this period. O’Shaughnessey has voiced Tails throughout the Sonic movie series since the character’s full debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and is set to return again for the fourth film.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is currently scheduled to release in theaters on March 19, 2027. The film is expected to continue the story teased at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which introduced Amy Rose and Metal Sonic as major new additions to the movie universe.

A copyright preregistration for the film previously revealed the first official plot description, stating that Sonic will be joined by a new hero named Amy as he faces “a new technological nemesis known as Metal Sonic.” The same listing named Paramount Pictures Corporation and SEGA of America as authors and copyright claimants, with Jeff Fowler returning as director.

With filming complete and voice work now underway, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is moving deeper into post-production. The next stage will bring together the recorded performances, animation, visual effects, and live-action footage needed to bring Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, Metal Sonic, and the rest of the cast back to the big screen.
