During this Summer Game Fest weekend, along with a boatload of information, screenshots, and gameplay footage of the latest upcoming entry in the Sonic racing series, we also got the full opening theme and cutscene for the game!

Featuring a high energy theme with vocals by what sounds like Nathan Sharp, who some fans may know as NateWantsToBattle, he has not only covered a multitude of Sonic the Hedgehog vocal songs but also contributed to the Sonic series with the outro song “One Way Dream” from Sonic Frontiers, and made appearances singing in the Sonic Symphony. The song is accompanied by CGI footage of Sonic’s friends and rivals racing through the multitude of environments featured in the game, with characters visibly getting blown up, stepped on, and even run over.

The reveal came from YouTuber and Twitch Streamer @ChocolateKieran, who had the chance to record the opening along with the audio during the event. Although not the best quality, you can clearly hear (and watch) the chaos unfold:

The footage quickly went viral as Sonic fans shared their opinions on the song itself, with some calling it cheesy and childish, and others saying it’s upbeat, catchy, and something out of an anime opening. Some even say it’s a grower. Overall, it seems to be a pretty even split between fans who love it and those who don’t.

Regardless of where you stand on the debate, one thing is for certain. The song and the animated intro capture the high energy chaos that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds brings. If any of the gameplay we’ve seen is anything to go by, CrossWorlds might just be the best Sonic racer yet. We’ll find out for certain when the game releases on September 25 this year.

Where do you stand on the opening of the game? Let us know in the comments, and make sure to keep it locked to Sonic City for more Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds News and Updates.
