Sonic fans will need to wait a bit longer as SEGA has officially delayed the global launch of its upcoming multiplayer game, Sonic Rumble. Initially set for a winter release, the game is now slated for a spring 2025 launch, with the App Store currently listing May 8 as a potential release date. SEGA has not confirmed whether this date is final or a placeholder, but the delay allows the team to further fine-tune the game’s experience.
To soften the blow, SEGA unveiled a development roadmap outlining planned updates leading up to the global release. Highlights include new stages, expanded language support, and the introduction of a quick play mode. A major update (version 1.2.0), expected by launch, will bring character-specific abilities—with Amy Rose’s Piko Piko Hammer confirmed as the first. Fans can expect similar iconic abilities from other classic Sonic characters in future updates.

One silver lining of the delay is the extension of the pre-registration campaign. Players are being rewarded as registration milestones are reached:
- 200,000 pre-registrations: 5,000 Rings (Unlocked)
- 400,000 pre-registrations: Happy Chao sticker (Unlocked)
- 600,000 pre-registrations: Crystal Chao buddy (Upcoming)
- Future milestones: Garnet Knuckles and Movie Sonic skins (Details TBA)
With pre-registrations climbing steadily, fans can look forward to more in-game goodies before launch.
While Sonic Rumble is confirmed for mobile platforms and PC via Steam, some fans are hopeful for a console release. Although SEGA typically separates its mobile and console offerings, the multiplayer focus of Sonic Rumble could make a console port appealing if demand proves strong.
Understandably, the delay has left some players disappointed, particularly those in regions still awaiting access to early events held in select countries. SEGA has yet to confirm whether missed content will be available post-launch or how these players might be compensated.
Despite the setback, the extended development time should ensure a more polished and enjoyable experience when Sonic Rumble finally debuts.
