Sonic the Hedgehog: Memories and Beyond finally has a release date! SEGA has confirmed that its new 35th anniversary animated short will premiere on November 12, 2026, giving fans another look at the production through a brand-new trailer shown during Club Chaos in New York City on October 9.
The short was originally announced at Anime Expo in July, with a fall 2026 release window and a story involving Dr. Eggman’s latest plans for Metal Sonic. Now, with its premiere just a month away, SEGA has narrowed that window to a specific date.
In Memories and Beyond, Dr. Eggman sets out to turn Metal Sonic into the ultimate fighting machine by stealing Sonic’s life-data and using the power of the Chaos Emeralds. With Super Metal Sonic threatening the heroes, Sonic and his friends must draw upon the friendships they’ve built throughout their adventures to overcome their robotic opponent.
The animated short is being produced as part of Sonic’s 35th anniversary celebrations, following a series of animated projects that have included Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings and work on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
SEGA’s Japanese Sonic account has also confirmed that a Japanese-dubbed version is in production. The company notes that the release date may vary slightly depending on time zones and advises viewers to enable subtitles when watching.
The announcement comes ahead of another opportunity to learn about the production, with GXS Productions scheduled to offer a behind-the-scenes look at Memories and Beyond during LightBox Expo on October 23.
Sonic the Hedgehog: Memories and Beyond premieres on November 12 through Sonic’s official social media channels.
