Sonic the Hedgehog: Memories and Beyond is getting another special preview later this month, with animation studio GXS Productions bringing an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming short to LightBox Expo 2026!
The studio will host a panel titled GXS Productions’ Animation Journey with Sonic the Hedgehog on Friday, October 23, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM PDT, giving attendees a closer look at its work on Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and the new 35th-anniversary animation.
Alongside the Memories and Beyond preview, GXS will discuss how it approaches Sonic animation, including its hybrid 2D/3D production workflow, collaboration with SEGA and international partners, and the techniques used to create its cinematic, anime-inspired visual style.
The presentation will also bring together several people involved in Sonic’s animated projects, including GXS Productions’ Alan Wan, Christopher Luc and Kevin Molina-Ortiz, alongside Ruth Sik, Matthew Chow and SEGA representatives Jasmin Hernandez and Yukio Kusumoto.
GXS Productions combines the talents of Studio Giggex and Simage Animation, whose work with SEGA includes the Dark Beginnings animated miniseries and animation for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
As Sonic City previously reported, Memories and Beyond was announced during Anime Expo 2026 as part of Sonic’s 35th-anniversary celebrations. The upcoming short follows Dr. Eggman’s plan to upgrade Metal Sonic using Sonic’s life-data and the Chaos Emeralds, forcing Sonic and his friends to rely on the bonds they’ve built throughout their adventures.
The LightBox Expo panel will take place in Room 209–210 at the Pasadena Convention Center in California. The new animated short remains scheduled for fall 2026.
