SEGA and animate have announced a major year-long global collaboration that will bring several SEGA Group franchises to animate stores in Japan and overseas.

The project will begin in June 2026 and marks the first global cross-regional collaboration of its kind between SEGA and animate. The campaign will feature IP from SEGA, ATLUS, and Rovio Entertainment, with events planned across more than 140 animate stores worldwide.

The featured franchises include Sonic the Hedgehog, Puyo Puyo, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!, the Persona series, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Yakuza / Like a Dragon, Angry Birds, and Sakura Wars.

The collaboration will include limited-time exhibitions, hands-on gameplay opportunities, new merchandise, purchase bonus fairs, and animate Cafe Gratte collaborations. Gratte offerings feature themed graphic lattes with character prints, while Only Shop events will showcase displays and content tied to each title.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be the first franchise featured in the project. Sonic’s Only Shop and Fair will run from June 6 to June 21, 2026 at select overseas animate stores, with the fair continuing until June 28. Participating locations include animate Shanghai Flagship Store, Wujiaochang, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Taipei, Hongdae, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Los Angeles. Several of these stores will also include hands-on gameplay stands.

A wider Sonic fair will also run from June 6 to June 28 at additional locations, including animate Ikebukuro Flagship Store, Akihabara, Shibuya, Kichijoji PARCO, Yokohama VIVRE, Sendai, Nagoya, Osaka Nippombashi, Umeda, Okayama, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Busan, Jamsil Lotte, Future Park Rangsit, London, and the animate Online Shop.

The Sonic Cafe Gratte collaboration will also be held from June 6 to June 28. Participating locations include animate Ikebukuro Flagship Store, Akihabara ANNEX, Shibuya, Kichijoji PARCO, Yokohama VIVRE, Sendai, Nagoya, Osaka Nippombashi, Umeda, Okayama, Shanghai Flagship Store, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei, Hongdae, Jamsil Lotte, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur.

After Sonic, the project will continue with other SEGA Group franchises throughout 2026 and into 2027. Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! events are scheduled from August, followed by Persona series events beginning in September, Metaphor: ReFantazio in October, Yakuza / Like a Dragon in November, Angry Birds around December 2026 and February 2027, Sakura Wars around January 2027, and Puyo Puyo around February 2027, with some regional Gratte events beginning earlier.

SEGA says the project is part of its broader transmedia strategy, which expands its franchises beyond games into areas such as merchandise, video content, live music events, and real-world experiences. By partnering with animate, one of Japan’s largest anime, comic, and game specialty store chains, SEGA aims to give fans across different regions and generations a new way to experience its characters and worlds.

The Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration will begin on June 6, 2026, with more details on merchandise, bonuses, and featured content expected closer to launch.
