Following the surprise delay of Sonic Rumble’s global launch last week, Sega’s development team took to Discord to answer fan questions and clarify the situation. The game was originally set to launch worldwide on May 8, but no new release date has been confirmed.

One of the hottest topics was whether Sonic Rumble could get a beta test ahead of launch. Developers explained that running a beta on mobile platforms is “just not easy,” citing Android and iOS restrictions. However, they expressed interest in the idea of a Steam beta, stating, “it’s something we’d like to do.” That said, they cautioned that it would only make sense if the delay is extended, noting, “if the game is not delayed by a super long time,” a Steam beta might not be worthwhile.

Currently, the iOS App Store lists a placeholder release date of July 31, but the team confirmed this is not the actual release date—just a stand-in until a new date is finalized.

The developers also addressed fan hopes for collaborations beyond Sega’s own properties. While Sonic Rumble already features crossovers with franchises like Super Monkey Ball and Altered Beast, fans wondered if third-party collaborations could be on the table. The devs teased, “maybe, we never know” with a smirking emoji, leaving the door wide open for future surprises.

When asked about user-generated content like custom maps, the developers shared that it’s “something we might explore in the future.” As for a console version of Sonic Rumble, questions were largely left unanswered, suggesting the team’s priority remains on mobile and PC for now.

Earlier this year, the team assured fans that “many” of the region-exclusive cosmetics available during the soft launch will return for the global release. During the Q&A, the developers reiterated this plan, though they admitted they can’t guarantee that every item will return.

Sonic Rumble’s delay has left fans eager for news, but this latest Q&A sheds some light on what’s ahead.

I wonder if opportunity knocks for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds considering Rumble’s May 8th global launch has been delayed. And should SEGA play their cards right, the game, which was announced during PlayStation’s State of Play earlier this year, will likely launch during the Summertime.
