SEGA has announced that Sonic Rumble’s highly anticipated Ver. 1.2.0 major update will launch on May 8, bringing a slew of new content, gameplay features, and system overhauls to the game. Maintenance is scheduled for May 7 from 4:00 AM to May 8 at 8:00 AM UTC, and players will need to update the app after maintenance to access the latest version.
The update adds several new stages inspired by classic Sonic zones, including City Escape Run, Sweet Mountain Run, Starlight Carnival Run 3, and Lava Mountain Run 3. New battle modes like City Escape Ring Battle and Sweet Mountain Ring Battle also join the lineup, alongside new challenges and a Co-op Battle featuring the formidable Death Queen.

One of the headline features is the addition of Crews, letting players form teams with friends to complete special missions and earn daily rewards together. Another major feature is Rumble Rankings, a competitive ranking system that rewards players based on their scores within a league.

The update also introduces Skills, letting players equip characters with new abilities that impact gameplay, such as enhanced speed, offensive moves, or magnetically attracting Rings. Skills can be purchased and upgraded using Skill Stars, a new resource earned through missions.

Significant changes are coming to the progression system for Skins, Buddies, and Emotes. Enhancement materials have been replaced with a universal item called Tune-Up Wrenches, with existing materials being converted accordingly. Skins and Buddies will now level up instead of using grade-based upgrades, simplifying the Score Bonus system.
As a result of these updates, certain Emotes will be re-released as Skills, and players who purchased affected Emotes will be compensated with Red Star Rings or Skill Stars. Additionally, some shop bundles, including Riders-themed Skin Bundles, will be discontinued after the May 7 maintenance.
Sonic Rumble’s Ver. 1.2.0 update promises to shake up the game’s competitive and customization systems while laying the groundwork for future content.
