Tangle Action Figure Leak Excites Sonic the Hedgehog Fans

A new Sonic the Hedgehog leak has popped up online, and it has nothing to do with the games or movies, but it is still causing a lot of excitement. This leak is actually about a new toy from Jakks Pacific. The company has released plenty of Sonic figures over the years, covering Sonic and many of his friends and rivals, but this time, the leaked figure is of a relatively recent character who has not had much official merchandise yet. Fans spotted leaked images of a Tangle action figure on eBay before any official announcement could be made.

Tangle might not be a mainline game character yet, but she is a huge deal for fans of the IDW Sonic comics. Created specifically for the comics, Tangle quickly became a fan favorite after her debut in 2018. She has not had a lot of representation outside of comics and a few mobile game appearances, so the possibility of an official toy suggests Sega might be getting more comfortable expanding her presence. Even Ian Flynn, the co-creator of Tangle and current writer for IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog series, shared his excitement over the leak.

The upcoming figure could open the door for even more comic-original characters to make their way into merchandise or even the games themselves. Characters like Whisper, Surge, and Doctor Starline have all developed passionate fanbases, and since these IDW characters are wholly owned by Sega, there is much less legal red tape compared to the Archie comic characters that faced major issues years ago. Their future appearances in games, TV, or even the Sonic films now seem more plausible than ever.

Many fans are particularly hopeful that Tangle and Whisper might show up in the upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds game. With its large roster and crossover-friendly nature, it would be the perfect opportunity to include more original characters, although nothing has been confirmed yet. CrossWorlds is scheduled to release sometime in 2025, so there is still time for surprises.

Tangle’s journey from comic panels to official merchandise is a big milestone. The IDW era has helped stabilize the Sonic comic franchise after the rocky end of the Archie era, and the growing recognition of characters like Tangle gives fans hope that these originals are here to stay.
