Shinichi “Touma” Higashi, the former SEGA artist best known as the creator of Fang the Sniper from Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble, has officially reunited with SEGA to create a brand-new series of collectible vinyl figures featuring Sonic and friends.
Higashi announced the collaboration on X, calling it “a very emotional project” that reconnects him with the franchise that defined the early years of his career. The figures are being developed in partnership between SEGA, TOUMART Inc. (Higashi’s design company founded in 2005), and T-Base Toy.
The upcoming line will feature ten detailed figures, including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Metal Sonic, and Dr. Eggman, as well as fan-favorite and lesser-seen characters Mighty, Ray, Trip, and Higashi’s “firstborn son,” Fang the Sniper. Each figure stands approximately 4.3 inches tall and features a bold, colorful style that captures the charm of Higashi’s classic Sonic artwork.
Higashi originally joined SEGA in 1993 and contributed art and design to several Sonic titles, including Sonic Chaos, Sonic Drift, Tails Adventure, Sonic 3D: Flickies’ Island (Saturn version), Sonic Jam, and Sonic Adventure. His creative work extended beyond the Sonic series to include NiGHTS into Dreams, Burning Rangers, and Skies of Arcadia. After leaving SEGA in 2001, he became a respected figure in the designer toy industry, founding TOUMART and gaining international recognition for his stylized vinyl creations.
The new Sonic vinyl collection will make its public debut at DesignerCon 2025, held at the World Market Center in Las Vegas from November 14 to 16, giving fans their first look at the full lineup. While the figures will initially release exclusively in Japan this winter, Higashi confirmed that talks are underway to bring the series to the United States in the future.
This collaboration marks an emotional reunion between Higashi and SEGA, bridging his past contributions to the Sonic series with his modern success as a toy designer. It also celebrates the enduring appeal of both his work and the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
