SEGA has officially confirmed that Sonic X Shadow Generations will be available as a day-one title for the Nintendo Switch 2 when the new hardware launches on June 5. The time-warping dual campaign joins Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S as part of SEGA’s initial Switch 2 lineup.

The upcoming release features a brand-new story mode starring Shadow the Hedgehog, alongside a fully remastered version of Sonic Generations, complete with upgraded visuals, rebalanced gameplay, and bonus content. In Shadow Generations, Shadow has new powers that highlight his reputation as the “Ultimate Life Form,” while longtime fans can look forward to revisiting a collection of Sonic’s most iconic 2D and 3D stages.

This makes Sonic X Shadow Generations the most high-profile Sonic game to launch with new Nintendo hardware since Sonic Lost World debuted on the Wii U in 2013. It also marks SEGA’s third confirmed title for Switch 2 launch day, signaling a significant commitment to the platform right out of the gate.

The game has already seen success since its initial launch earlier this year, with SEGA previously confirming that Sonic X Shadow Generations has sold over 2 million copies globally. While it hasn’t yet matched the sales of Sonic Frontiers, which surpassed 3.5 million units, it’s a strong showing for the reimagined classic.

Players eager to explore the dual adventures of Sonic and Shadow won’t have to wait long to take the action on the go. Sonic X Shadow Generations joins the Switch 2 lineup on June 5, with Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army to follow on June 19, and Two Point Museum arriving later in the year.
