Sega has shared new details from the closed network test for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, giving fans a glimpse into how the beta performed and what they can expect moving forward. According to the publisher, the test saw participation from players in over 130 regions, with more than one million races completed during the limited testing period. Sega has acknowledged player feedback and says it’s now “driving down the road to release” with that input in mind.

One of the most interesting takeaways from the beta data is the popularity of certain characters. As expected, Sonic took the top spot as the most-played racer. Right behind him was Shadow, proving once again that the Ultimate Lifeform remains a fan-favorite. Perhaps the biggest surprise was Cream and Cheese rounding out the top three, showing that even among speedsters and powerhouses, the duo still has plenty of supporters.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds does not yet have a confirmed release date, but Sega is aiming for a launch sometime this year. Given past Sonic game releases, a fall window seems likely, possibly lining up with the holiday season. However, if Sega plans to implement significant changes based on player feedback, it may take additional time before the game is ready.

While some fans may be disappointed if Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is pushed to later in the year, there’s still plenty to look forward to in the meantime. Sega’s Sonic Rumble is set to launch globally this spring, with the company promising to bring back “many” limited-time cosmetics for players who missed them during the game’s early access period in select regions.

With Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds still in development, more details will likely emerge in the coming months, including additional racer reveals, track showcases, and possibly an open beta. Fans eager for another chance to hit the track will have to stay tuned for further announcements.
