Sega has provided a new update on Sonic Rumble, shedding light on the reasons behind its recent delay. Originally slated for release this winter, the upcoming multiplayer mobile game was pushed back to spring, with Sega now confirming that it has been working closely with Rovio to resolve various issues identified during regional testing.
In its latest earnings report, Sega stated, “As for Sonic Rumble, we are currently discussing areas for improvement with Rovio which were found during the testing process in some regions, and plan to launch the service globally as soon as we can see the path to make improvements.”
Sega’s collaboration with Rovio stems from the company’s 2023 acquisition of the Angry Birds developer, a deal worth approximately $772 million. At the time, Sega explained that the purchase was aimed at strengthening its presence in the mobile gaming market by leveraging Rovio’s expertise. Now, that strategy appears to be paying off, with Rovio playing a key role in fine-tuning Sonic Rumble before its worldwide launch.
While the exact nature of the improvements remains unclear, Sega’s statement suggests that player feedback from early access regions has influenced necessary refinements. The company has yet to confirm a final release date, but fans can expect Sonic Rumble to launch globally once these updates are in place.
