Sonic PICT, stylized as SONICPICT and also written as Sonic Pict, or SONIC PICT, and subtitled – Life in Sonic’s World –, is a recurring official illustration feature associated with Sonic Channel, SEGA‘s official Japanese website for the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The feature consists of character artwork originally posted through the official Japanese Sonic Twitter account and later archived on Sonic Channel. The illustrations depict characters from the franchise in seasonal, comedic, dramatic, or everyday scenarios, with many entries accompanied by short captions or side-story text.
The first illustration later included in the Sonic PICT archive was posted on 23 September 2019. The name Sonic PICT and the hashtag #sonicpict were introduced in 2020, beginning with the illustration “To My Beloved Mom…!” The dedicated Sonic PICT archive on Sonic Channel was introduced in March 2024, collecting both past and future artwork in one section.
All Sonic PICT artwork is illustrated by Yui Karasuno. The first twenty-one illustrations were later included in the Life in Sonic’s World Vol. 1 art book. Beginning with the Halloween 2019 illustration, Big the Cat, Froggy, or a reference to either character can be found as an easter egg in almost every entry. In 2025 and 2026, Sonic PICT artwork was also used as Sonic Channel’s monthly calendar artwork.

Overview[edit]

Sonic PICT is built around official character illustrations published through Sonic Channel’s Side Story section. Each entry presents a themed artwork piece, usually centered on one or more characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The scenes are often framed around seasonal events, holidays, travel, celebrations, daily life, comedy, character-specific situations, or quieter emotional moments.
Entries are dated individually and arranged in reverse chronological order in the Sonic Channel archive. Earlier artwork was first distributed through the official Japanese Sonic Twitter account, with some early illustrations collected through Twitter Moments before that feature was discontinued. Sonic Channel later became the main archive for the series.
From 2025 onward, Sonic Channel began presenting Sonic PICT entries as monthly calendar artwork, with titles formatted around the year and month, followed by the individual illustration title. This made Sonic PICT part of Sonic Channel’s broader calendar feature while preserving its identity as a recurring official artwork series.
Across its run, Sonic PICT has featured major protagonists, supporting characters, villains, and less frequently spotlighted cast members. The artwork often draws on established character traits, relationships, and settings, but the illustrations are generally presented as standalone scenes rather than direct adaptations of game events.
Format[edit]
Sonic PICT entries are individual Sonic Channel posts centered on a single illustration. Each entry includes a publication date, title, featured artwork, and accompanying text that frames the scene. The written portion may describe the characters’ actions, expressions, setting, or mood, giving the artwork a short story-like context.
The feature uses a flexible format rather than a continuous storyline. Entries may depict seasonal events, holidays, daily life, travel, action-oriented moments, comedic scenes, or more dramatic character imagery. This format allows Sonic Channel to highlight both recurring lead characters and less frequently featured members of the cast.
Side stories
Sonic PICT is filed under Sonic Channel’s Side Story section. In this context, each illustration functions as a self-contained character scene rather than a direct game adaptation. The accompanying text usually expands on the moment shown in the artwork or presents a brief situation connected to the featured characters.
The side-story format gives Sonic Channel a way to publish character-focused material outside of main game releases. Many entries rely on recognizable traits or relationships, such as Sonic’s love of chili dogs, Tails’ technical interests, Amy’s enthusiasm, Rouge’s glamorous image, Blaze’s composed personality, or the Chaotix Detective Agency’s comedic work dynamic.
Calendar integration
From the 2025 calendar onward, Sonic PICT became directly integrated with Sonic Channel’s monthly calendar artwork. Entries began using calendar-style titles, such as “SONICPICT 2025年1月カレンダー”, followed by the individual title of the illustration. Under this format, each monthly calendar image is also treated as a Sonic PICT post in the Side Story section.
The calendar-linked format allows each artwork to serve both as a monthly calendar illustration and as a standalone Sonic PICT scene with its own title and description.
Production[edit]

Sonic PICT is produced by a three-person team consisting of Kazuyuki Hoshino, Eitaro Toyoda, and Yui Karasuno. Hoshino, Sonic’s creative director, serves as the team’s lead and gives final approval for each illustration. Toyoda handles planning direction and supervises Sonic-related character settings and text, while Karasuno oversees Sonic artwork and draws the Sonic PICT illustrations.[1]Life in Sonic’s World vol.01: The Making of SONIC PICT…. Brownie Hideout. [2]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X. [3]「2022年9月のシルバーイラスト」ができるまで....... Sonic Channel.
The feature has been developed through planning discussions between the three staff members. After the COVID-19 pandemic changed the team’s usual meeting process, these discussions were mainly carried out through remote chat meetings. Behind-the-scenes material has presented parts of these conversations in a chat-log format, showing the team moving from an initial idea to rough sketches, feedback, revisions, and final approval.[1]Life in Sonic’s World vol.01: The Making of SONIC PICT…. Brownie Hideout. [2]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X. [3]「2022年9月のシルバーイラスト」ができるまで....... Sonic Channel.
Life in Sonic’s World vol.01: The Making of SONIC PICT… focused on the May 2021 Amy illustration, “With My Favorite Raincoat…” Toyoda began with the idea of a rainy-season entry featuring rainwear, while Karasuno suggested Amy Rose because she could be shown wearing the same raincoat and umbrella from a previous wallpaper. The team settled on Amy in Sunset Heights, using a post-rain setting with a rainbow, the flower seen after completing Sonic Forces, and small Wisp-related details as a topical link to Sonic Colors: Ultimate.[1]Life in Sonic’s World vol.01: The Making of SONIC PICT…. Brownie Hideout.
During development of the Amy illustration, the team discussed alternate character ideas, the use of Tikal and Chaos for a future Tanabata concept, the location’s mood, and how to make the image feel hopeful after rainfall. Karasuno’s rough artwork prioritized a large rainbow and Amy’s expression, while later adjustments added more of a rainy-season atmosphere, including a wetter sense of air and color. Hoshino approved the final direction after the image came together with a sense of recovery and hope.[1]Life in Sonic’s World vol.01: The Making of SONIC PICT…. Brownie Hideout.

A later official post from the Japanese Sonic account presented “The Making of SONIC PICT” vol. 1.5, a newly created production log for fans who did not own the art book included with Sonic Colors: Ultimate 30th Anniversary Edition, where vol. 1 had originally appeared.[2]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X. The installment focused on the November 2021 Chaotix illustration, “If You’re Looking for Someone, Leave It to Us!” Toyoda’s concept placed the Chaotix Detective Agency in its office during Labor Thanksgiving Day, with Vector, Espio, and Charmy shown in a chaotic but energetic work environment while handling a missing frog case.[2]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X.
The team refined the Chaotix illustration by adjusting the characters’ poses, the placement of desk objects, the missing poster, Espio’s expression, the perspective, lighting, and color balance. The final version kept the scene centered on the agency’s work dynamic, with Vector holding the missing poster, Espio taking notes, and Charmy noticing the missing frog outside the window without realizing the significance of what he had found.[2]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X.
A Sonic Channel Staff Column article later detailed the creation of the September 2022 Silver illustration, “A Brief Rest”. The concept centered on Silver the Hedgehog resting in the ruined future version of Crisis City, with the team discussing how to balance the bleak setting with a sense of hope and warmth.[3]「2022年9月のシルバーイラスト」ができるまで....... Sonic Channel.
During development of the Silver illustration, the team considered details such as Silver’s food, the weather, lighting, the presence of Iblis in the background, marks suggesting repeated battles, and visual elements representing Silver’s hope for a better future. The final artwork used the ruined city, a campfire, cool shadow tones, and signs of fatigue to create an image that conveyed both the harshness of Silver’s world and a moment of temporary calm.[3]「2022年9月のシルバーイラスト」ができるまで....... Publication history[edit]
The artwork series that later became Sonic PICT was first shared through the official Japanese Sonic Twitter account. Early illustrations were initially collected through Twitter Moments, a feature that was later discontinued. After that feature was removed, Sonic Channel eventually introduced a dedicated Sonic PICT archive for the illustrations.[4]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X.
2019
The first illustration later included in the Sonic PICT archive was originally posted by the official Japanese Sonic Twitter account on 23 September 2019.[5]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X. The illustration was later archived on Sonic Channel as “No Matter Where I Go, Chili Dogs Are the Best!?” The series continued with “YOU SCREAM, CREAM!?” in October and “Cutting Through the Aurora Night Sky…” in December, establishing the format as a recurring series of standalone character illustrations.
2020
In 2020, the illustration series continued with seasonal and character-focused entries, including Valentine’s Day, White Day, Mother’s Day, Sonic’s birthday, summer, Halloween, autumn, and Christmas-themed artwork. The name Sonic PICT and the hashtag #sonicpict first appeared with “To My Beloved Mom…!”, which was posted by the official Japanese Sonic Twitter account on 10 May 2020.[6]@SonicOfficialJP on X. X. The label was then adopted as the official name for the recurring monthly illustration feature, which was later archived on Sonic Channel. The 2020 run ended with “The Silver-White Santa Claus” in December.
2021
Sonic PICT continued in 2021 with a full year of monthly entries. The illustrations featured a wider range of character-focused scenarios, including New Year activities, spring imagery, treasure hunting, rainy weather, Sonic’s birthday, summer festivals, Halloween, and Christmas. The first twenty-one Sonic PICT illustrations, ending with the June 2021 entry “Happy Birthday, Sonic!”, were later included in Life in Sonic’s World Vol. 1.
2022
The 2022 run continued the monthly format from January through December. Entries included seasonal artwork, character comedy, birthday-themed artwork, festival scenes, quiet character moments, and holiday illustrations. The year ended with the December entry 「これが…プレゼント…」, translated as “This Is… a Present…”, continuing the series’ pattern of pairing character artwork with short title-based story framing.
2023
In 2023, Sonic PICT again received monthly entries from January through December. The year’s artwork included themes such as improvement and repair, heartfelt gifts, deliveries, jewels, botanical scenery, Sonic’s birthday, fishing, underwater adventure, Halloween, friendship, and character-specific dramatic imagery. The 2023 entries continued to appear as part of Sonic Channel’s Side Story section.
2024
The dedicated Sonic PICT section on Sonic Channel was introduced in March 2024, at which point past artwork and future entries were collected in a single archive on the website.[7]@krack932 on X. X. The 2024 entries continued the dated Sonic PICT post format and included artwork centered on winter, spring outings, travel preparations, food, nature, summer hiking, mystery objects, Halloween-style comedy, and beach-themed scenes. A December 2024 post introduced the first 2025 calendar-labeled Sonic PICT entry, marking the point where the feature became more directly attached to monthly calendar artwork.[8]SONICPICT 2025年1月カレンダー『こうやって食うソバがタマランのじゃ!』. Sonic Channel.
2025
Beginning with the 2025 calendar entries, Sonic Channel presented Sonic PICT as monthly calendar artwork. Titles were formatted as “SONICPICT 2025年[month]カレンダー” followed by the individual illustration title. The 2025 run featured entries centered on the Chaotix, Blaze, Jet, Silver, Cream, Shadow, Rouge, Elise, Mephiles, and other characters, while continuing to be filed under Sonic Channel’s Side Story section.
2026
The 2026 calendar run continued the calendar-linked Sonic PICT format. Its entries began with the January 2026 calendar artwork, “Sonic and Blissful Oden”, published in December 2025, followed by “Mmmah~……”, “The Ruin Library of the Royal Valley”, “Tails’ Campus Life”, and “Rouge’s Luxurious Casino Vacation”.
