Shemar Moore wants back into the Sonic movies, but it sounds like he is still waiting for the call.
The actor, who plays Randall Handel in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, discussed his potential return for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 during a new interview with ScreenRant. Moore has not been announced as part of the fourth movie’s cast, and his comments indicate that he has yet to be approached about returning.
Moore said his time working on the Sonic films had been “fun,” and joked that despite decades of television work on shows including Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T., Sonic has become one of the things younger fans recognize him for most.
“My daughter loves you because of Sonic.”
Moore said those encounters have become especially meaningful now that he has a young daughter of his own. He is interested in doing more family-friendly work that she can actually watch, rather than having her primarily see “Daddy scowling and shooting bad guys.”
And he would very much like Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to be one of those projects.
“Neal Moritz, he knows my number.”
Moore was referring to producer Neal H. Moritz, who produces both the Sonic movies and S.W.A.T.. He then jokingly issued Moritz a warning:
“Neal knows he’s going to catch some smoke if he doesn’t put me in Sonic 4.”
His reason?
“It is not me, my daughter demands it.”
Moore first appeared as Randall Handel in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Introduced as Rachel’s fiancé, Randall was eventually revealed to be an undercover G.U.N. agent involved in the operation to capture Sonic and Tails. He and Rachel reconcile by the end of the film.
Randall and Rachel did not properly return in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Instead, Tom and Maddie briefly used Tails’ holographic technology to disguise themselves as the pair while infiltrating G.U.N. headquarters.
Moore’s comments are notable because Sonic the Hedgehog 4 announced its principal cast in March, and neither Moore nor Natasha Rothwell, who plays Rachel, was among the names confirmed. The announced lineup includes returning actors Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Jim Carrey and Lee Majdoub, alongside Kristen Bell as Amy Rose and several newcomers.
The movie has also moved well beyond principal photography. Director Jeff Fowler confirmed in May that filming had wrapped, with production now focused on the extensive CG animation, visual effects and voice work required for Sonic and the rest of the cast.
None of that definitively rules Randall out. Moore could still appear in material filmed separately, be brought in later, or simply be unable to discuss an involvement that has not been announced. His comments should therefore not be read as confirmation that Randall is absent from the movie.
What they do tell us is that Moore is publicly enthusiastic about coming back, while no return has been announced and, based on his comments to ScreenRant, he is still waiting to hear from the people making the film.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on March 19, 2027.
