Japanese plush manufacturer Sanei Boeki has revealed a new Sonic the Hedgehog mascot line built around a simple gimmick: their arms and legs are made from string, letting the characters swing around as they are carried.
The new ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ ぶらぶらおでかけマスコット, or Burabura Odekake Mascot, series launches with five characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Shadow. Sanei plans to release all five in late December 2026.
Rather than using the usual fully stuffed plush limbs, each mascot has thin string arms and legs designed to dangle and move when the character is shaken or carried around. They also come with gold-tone ball chains so they can be attached to bags and taken along with fans.
Sanei is specifically pitching that portability toward #ソニかつ, the Japanese Sonic fan activity tag used for sharing collections, outings, photos and other Sonic-related activities.
Reservations through online retailers are expected to open around mid-November, ahead of the December release. Sanei has not announced individual prices yet.
The initial lineup sticks to five of the series’ most recognisable modern characters, with Sonic joined by Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Shadow. Each uses their current character design while sharing the same deliberately loose-limbed mascot style.
The Sonic the Hedgehog Burabura Odekake Mascot series is scheduled to arrive in late December 2026, with reservations expected to begin around the middle of November.
