The end of Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla is coming into view, with ComicBook revealing the first covers and new story details for the crossover’s fifth and final issue.
Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #5 is scheduled for December 16 at $4.99, bringing Sonic, Shadow and their allies into a final confrontation with Dr. Eggman, Obsidian Mechagodzilla and the Obsidian Horde as Operation Dark Future reaches its climax.
Three covers have been shown so far. Cover A comes from Jack Lawrence and Reggie Graham, Cover B is by Dan Schoening, and the 1:15 retailer incentive variant is illustrated by Natalie Haines.
The solicitation makes it clear that Eggman’s plans have escalated considerably by the finale. Sonic, Shadow, Amy, Tails, Knuckles and Mothra are all named among those standing against him, while Eggman boasts that Operation Dark Future is proceeding at full speed alongside his robotic forces. He even claims he will allow Godzilla to become his “loyal pet” once the world is under his control.
That setup also confirms that the newly introduced Obsidian Mechagodzilla and its accompanying Horde will be central to the closing battle. Earlier comments from the crossover’s creative team had already teased that a Sonic and Shadow kaiju interaction was moved into the climax of the series, and the finale now looks set to cash in on that buildup.
ComicBook’s reveal also includes an early look at Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #3, which arrives on October 14. The new inked preview pages show Shadow moving through a burning forest while Eggman’s plan continues to take shape elsewhere.
Issue #3’s solicitation says Operation Dark Future is nearing completion just as Shadow enters Eggman’s vicinity and an unexpected source of energy presents itself. The issue is also priced at $4.99.
The new material arrives shortly after Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #2 reached stores on September 9. That chapter sent Sonic and the others toward Angel Island while Eggman began investigating Mechagodzilla, pushing the crossover closer toward the larger plan now taking shape in issues #3 through #5.
Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #3 launches October 14, followed by issue #4 on November 11 and the finale on December 16.
