IDW’s next Sonic the Hedgehog trade paperback has surfaced, and Volume 23 already has a title, release date and a first look at the stories it will collect.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol. 23: Smoke & Mirrors is scheduled for June 8, 2027. The 128-page paperback will collect issues #89 through #93 of IDW’s ongoing series and carries a US price of $16.99. Penguin Random House lists the book under ISBN 9798887244747.

The collection brings together two connected mysteries involving stolen Chaos Emeralds and characters whose minds are being manipulated by an unknown enemy.

Silver and Blaze find themselves investigating a gothic palace in a distant land, where a new noble and an unnervingly cheerful staff quickly give them reason to be suspicious. The pair will have to deal with both the politics surrounding the palace and the technology hidden within it as they try to work out what is happening.

Elsewhere, trouble reaches Spiral Hill when Tangle and Whisper are caught in a strange mist that turns the two against each other. Under its effects, each begins to see the other as an enemy, leaving them fighting one another while the larger mystery surrounding the Chaos Emeralds continues to unfold.

That puts Smoke & Mirrors squarely in the middle of the comic’s developing Emerald storyline, with the same unidentified threat reaching two very different groups of characters.

Penguin Random House credits Evan Stanley as the author, with artwork by Min Ho Kim, Aaron Hammerstrom and Adam Bryce Thomas. The paperback measures 6-5/8 by 10-3/16 inches and is listed for readers ages 9-12.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol. 23: Smoke & Mirrors releases June 8, 2027 for $16.99, collecting issues #89-93.
