New details have reportedly emerged for Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition, giving fans a clearer idea of what SEGA may be preparing for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 release.
According to a new report from Dealabs, Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is being positioned as the most complete version of the 2022 open-zone Sonic title to date. The outlet claims the package will include the full base game, all post-launch updates, DLC, and gameplay improvements released since the original launch. Dealabs also says the edition is expected to include the bonus content previously available through the Digital Deluxe Edition.
The biggest change appears to be tied to the Nintendo Switch 2 version itself. The report claims Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition will feature improved performance, better visuals, and shorter loading times, addressing some of the technical limits seen in the original Nintendo Switch release. These details have not been confirmed by SEGA.
Sonic Frontiers originally launched in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game later received several free updates, including new challenges, Photo Mode, the Spin Dash, Birthday Bash content, new Koco, and The Final Horizon update, which added new story content and playable versions of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.
The new report follows earlier claims that Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is planned for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 23, 2026, matching Sonic’s anniversary. A physical edition and $49.99 U.S. price point were also previously reported, while European pricing is expected to land around €49.99 if the report proves accurate.
UPDATE 01/06/2026: Dealabs has shared an additional update, claiming that the European physical edition of Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 will use a Game-Key Card format. If accurate, this means the boxed version would not include the full game data directly on the card and would instead require a download, with the physical card acting as the access key.
The existence of Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition first surfaced through a Korean rating board listing earlier this year. Ratings listings have previously revealed unannounced Sonic projects ahead of official confirmation, but SEGA has not yet formally announced this edition or detailed its contents.
For now, the reported Switch 2 release, content lineup, technical upgrades, physical edition, Game-Key Card format, and pricing should all be treated as unofficial until SEGA makes an announcement.. It is also still unclear whether Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition will release only on Nintendo Switch 2 or appear on other platforms later.
If the report is accurate, Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition would give new players the most complete version of Sonic’s open-zone adventure while offering a technically stronger release for Nintendo’s next system.
