Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds continues to expand with a wide variety of playable characters and crossover content, but one noticeable omission remains: there is no content from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies — and according to Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka, that isn’t going to change anytime soon.

In an interview at gamescom with Chinese gaming magazine UCG, Iizuka confirmed that there are currently no plans to add Sonic Movie content to CrossWorlds. While not surprising, the clarification comes as fans had speculated whether the hit film series might eventually be represented in the game, given its global success, and the notable addition of Sonic Prime characters as a Digital Deluxe bonus.

Iizuka explained that the main reason is timing. With no Sonic movie releasing in 2025, there was no incentive to align in-game content with the films. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premiered last December, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is not scheduled to hit theaters until March 19, 2027.

It’s still possible this could change in the future. If CrossWorlds maintains strong performance, Sonic Team could continue supporting the game long enough to overlap with the release of Sonic Movie 4, creating an opportunity for tie-in content. For now, though, fans should not expect any movie-related additions.

Fortunately, the current roster of Sonic characters and crossover guests in CrossWorlds is already one of the most ambitious in franchise history, ensuring plenty of variety without the need for film tie-ins.

Well, that’s a bummer, but it would’ve been nice to have had Sonic Movie content in CrossWorlds considering how successful the DLC was for Sonic X Shadow Generations, right?

Well, it’s a weird reason either way, considering the Digital Deluxe edition includes three Sonic Prime characters, and as far as we know, there are no more Sonic Prime seasons coming this year or anytime soon.
