SEGA has officially announced a brand-new collaboration between Sonic the Hedgehog and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis ver.2 (NGS ver.2), launching Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The crossover event celebrates Sonic’s 34th anniversary, which takes place later that month on Monday, June 23, 2025.
As part of the announcement, SEGA revealed a special piece of collaborative costume artwork created by the NGS development team. The newly illustrated design merges NGS’s sci-fi aesthetic with Sonic-inspired flair, teasing the kind of stylish cosmetics and themed content players can expect during the event.
While full event details haven’t been revealed just yet, fans can likely anticipate Sonic-themed outfits, accessories, emotes, and possibly even in-game challenges tied to the Blue Blur’s legacy.
This isn’t Sonic’s first adventure into Phantasy Star territory—he’s made past appearances in Phantasy Star Online 2, often tied to his birthday. But with NGS ver.2’s enhanced visuals and gameplay features, this year’s celebration could be his biggest yet in the world of ARKS.
