June 23, 2025, marked Sonic the Hedgehog’s 34th birthday, and SEGA celebrated in style with a variety of announcements during the Sonic Station! Birthday 2025 Special livestream. From surprise Sanrio crossovers to custom PayPay card designs and a real-world event at Tokyo Joypolis, fans were treated to a blue blur bonanza.

One of the highlights was the reveal of new collaboration illustrations from SONIC & FRIENDS x Sanrio Characters. Alongside the previously announced Sonic x Hello Kitty artwork, fans were introduced to Tails paired with Cinnamoroll and Amy teamed up with My Melody. Additional character collaborations are on the way, along with a line of crossover merchandise that will be detailed soon.

On the tech side, PayPay users in Japan can now customize their payment cards with two new SONIC & FRIENDS card skins: the vibrant Green Hill theme and the tropical Southern Island design. Both are free and available starting June 23.

Also announced was a unique T-shirt collaboration between Sonic and popular Japanese content creator Rejekun. The lineup features eight limited-edition designs based on art from both Sonic Team and Rejekun himself. These are available in sizes for both kids and adults via Amazon’s Merch on Demand service until November 22. A behind-the-scenes video on the making of the designs is available now on Rejekun’s YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Joypolis is hosting the Sonic Birthday Party 2025 in JOYPOLIS from June 23 to June 29. The event features:

  • Exclusive collaboration tickets bundled with a themed pass case
  • A Sonic-themed photo booth
  • Limited-time menu items including a Sonic Birthday Chili Dog Set and Birthday Float
  • Special holographic and standard stickers with food orders
  • A stamp rally throughout the park, with a commemorative badge for participants who complete the challenge

The Sonic-themed celebration offers something for every type of fan, whether you’re snapping pics in Joypolis, customizing your digital wallet, or rocking new Sanrio-styled apparel.
