Pop culture just experienced a high-speed collision of epic proportions—Sonic the Hedgehog and The Flash have finally met. And as expected, the first order of business wasn’t small talk. It was a race.
In DC x Sonic the Hedgehog #1, written by Ian Flynn and illustrated by Adam Bryce Thomas, the long-anticipated crossover arrives in style. As Darkseid crashes into Sonic’s world with his planetoid fortress Ragna Rock and a swarm of Parademons, two universes collide in a multiverse-threatening event now dubbed the Chaos Crisis. With the Master Emerald in Darkseid’s sights, the Justice League steps in—and so does Team Sonic.
Of course, there was only one possible pairing when it came to Sonic himself: The Flash.
Their first interaction is exactly what fans hoped for. Flash initially mistakes Sonic for Krakkl, a multiversal speedster ally from the DC Universe whose design was inspired by Sonic himself.

But Sonic quickly sets the record straight—not just about who he is, but how fast he is. Flash claims he’s the fastest, and Sonic playfully fires back: “You can help out IF you can keep up!”
From that moment, it’s on.

Their dynamic is fast-paced and filled with mutual admiration hidden under friendly banter. They spend most of the issue side by side, dashing across zones in search of Darkseid while casually trading jabs about who’s quicker. Though there’s no definitive race—yet—the rivalry is clearly building, and their chemistry makes it one of the most entertaining parts of the issue.
The comic plays it smart. Rather than diving straight into a competition, it teases just enough to leave fans wanting more. The writers understand the stakes of this kind of crossover—two of fiction’s fastest characters meeting for the first time—and the anticipation for an eventual showdown is already sky-high.

Even more clever is the nod to Sonic’s admiration for The Flash in past media. In the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, Sonic is shown reading Flash comics in his lair. Now, he’s running shoulder-to-shoulder with the Scarlet Speedster himself, giving fans a full-circle moment that feels both earned and surreal.
With the multiverse under siege and the Master Emerald in danger, there’s a bigger crisis at hand. But let’s be honest—what we all really want to know is: who’s faster—the Blue Blur or the Fastest Man Alive?
As DC x Sonic the Hedgehog races ahead in future issues, it’s only a matter of time before the ultimate speed showdown takes center stage. And whether you’re Team Red or Team Blue, there’s no denying this crossover is delivering everything fans hoped for—and more.
The issue also includes a small yet powerful emotional moment between the two brooding heroes from both universes, Batman and Shadow, which you can check out here.
