The official Initial D The Arcade Twitter account confirmed that their development team is heavily involved in the creation of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. This connection sheds light on SEGA’s earlier tease that the project came from “SEGA’s elite racing game team.” However, it also seems that some members from SEGA’s rhythm game team are involved as well.

For those unfamiliar, Initial D The Arcade is the latest entry in the beloved arcade racing series known for its precision drifting mechanics and high-energy gameplay. With the involvement of this team, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds now boasts a pedigree rooted in authentic racing expertise. SEGA’s 2nd and 5th development divisions, which include arcade veterans and Sonic Team itself, are likely bringing a wealth of experience to ensure CrossWorlds feels as good as it looks.

Early impressions have already highlighted CrossWorlds’ innovative mechanics, like Travel Rings and dynamic track transformations, but now fans can expect a deeper, more technical edge to the gameplay. The inclusion of a team with a history of perfecting drifting gameplay could elevate CrossWorlds beyond just a kart racer to something more grounded in the nuances of high-speed competition.

With SEGA bringing together a team with such a strong legacy in both arcade racing and Sonic history, the hype for CrossWorlds continues to climb. If anyone can deliver real drifting alongside Sonic’s signature high-energy chaos, it’s the devs behind Initial D. As CrossWorlds speeds toward its release, fans can rest assured that the game is in very capable hands.
