With Mario Kart World’s launch this week and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds expected later this year, a familiar rivalry has reignited online. Longtime fans of Nintendo’s plumber and Sega’s blue blur are clashing once again, this time over speed settings in their respective kart racers.

The spark came from confirmation that Mario Kart World will not include a 200cc mode at launch. In an interview with Rolling Stone, producer Kosuke Yabuki acknowledged fan demand but could not confirm whether the mode would be added post-launch, as it was with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Just as that news was gaining traction, Sega timed their response perfectly. A new promo for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds revealed four speed settings: Normal, High Speed, Sonic Speed, and Super Sonic Speed. The highest tier features enhanced camera angles and top speeds reportedly reaching 250 miles per hour. These speed classes are not just labels—they significantly change gameplay.

The post set off a flurry of reactions, with Nintendo fans defending Mario Kart World for its confirmed release and likely commercial success. Some pointed out that even though CrossWorlds will launch on multiple platforms, it may not reach the sales figures of Nintendo’s juggernaut.

Mario Kart World benefits from an established fanbase and guaranteed success, while CrossWorlds is getting attention for its speed, style, and crossover content.
