Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka has suggested that there are no plans to create a standalone Chao Garden game, despite ongoing fan demand. In an interview with VGC, Iizuka explained that the Chao Garden, a beloved feature from Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, is deeply integrated into the structure of those games and can’t easily be separated into a standalone experience.

Fans have long expressed a desire for the Chao Garden to return, with some even hoping for a new Sonic Adventure 3. Iizuka acknowledged the continued requests but emphasized that the Chao Garden was a part of the larger Sonic Adventure gameplay experience, and developing it as a separate game would essentially be like asking for Sonic Adventure 3.

Addressing the possibility of a new Sonic Adventure game, Iizuka said, “At some time I’d like to say, ‘Hey, yeah, we’re making Adventure 3,’ but we don’t have plans for that yet.” He left the door open for a potential return but stated that it would require “the stars to align.”

Earlier this year, there were rumors of a Chao Garden mobile game in development, but these have been dismissed by Iizuka. He also confirmed in a June interview that Sonic X Shadow Generations would not include a Chao Garden, despite fan interest.

For now, while Sonic Adventure and the Chao Garden remain fan favorites, a return doesn’t seem to be in the immediate future, though Iizuka made it clear that fan demand hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Hang on, but the chao garden was part of Sonic Advance, too! Yes, it was connected to the chao garden in Adventure 2 (as long as you had the adapter), but if you didn’t have a GameCube, you could still easily enjoy it within Advance. I see no real reason why Sonic Team can’t implement it in any of their present works?
