Missed out on Sonic’s 35 Years of Speed art exhibitions in Seattle and Los Angeles? A selection of the artwork can now be brought home, but only for a limited time.
iam8bit has opened online orders for original artwork and prints from 35 Years of Speed: The Sonic Art Exhibit, including one-of-a-kind pieces from the show and more affordable Timed Edition prints.
Original artwork starts at $40, while prints start at just $15.
The Timed Edition prints are available through October 20, after which orders will close permanently. Unlike the original pieces, which are individual works, the Timed Editions are being offered on an open-order basis during the sales window.
The collection covers characters, settings and different interpretations from throughout Sonic’s history, carrying the artwork from the physical anniversary exhibitions to fans who could not attend either show.
SEGA and iam8bit’s 35 Years of Speed project brought together newly commissioned artwork from more than 30 established and emerging artists, fan submissions and historical material from SEGA’s own archives.
The exhibition first opened in Seattle during PAX West weekend before moving to Los Angeles on September 26 and 27. Sonic City previously took an extensive look at the show, including the commissioned pieces, fan artwork, sculptures and rare development material displayed inside the galleries.
Some of that material went far beyond conventional prints. The Los Angeles exhibition included pieces such as Ryann Shannon’s “Confetti Chao” ceramic sculpture, alongside artwork, Sonic memorabilia and even original development material including the Sonic Adventure 2 City Escape design document.
For fans primarily interested in the exhibition artwork itself, the new online sale is considerably more accessible. With prints beginning at $15, it gives people outside Seattle and Los Angeles a way to own one of the pieces without buying an original.
The important date is October 20. iam8bit says the Timed Edition prints will no longer be available once the order window closes.
