Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #2 will arrive one week later than planned after the truck carrying the issue was involved in an accident.
IDW Publishing announced on August 29 that several comics originally scheduled for September 2 have been pushed back to September 9 after the vehicle transporting them crashed.
Thankfully, IDW confirmed that nobody was injured in the accident. The delay is instead the result of the affected shipment itself, which included Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #2 alongside Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special, Event Horizon: Inferno #5 and TMNT: Journeys #13.
The delay is an unusually literal one. Rather than a production, printing or approval issue, the comics had already reached the physical distribution stage before the accident interrupted their journey to stores.
Bleeding Cool subsequently reported the change, confirming IDW’s new September 9 release date for the affected titles.
The issue had previously been solicited for September 2, with IDW’s original catalog listing the 32-page comic at $4.99. The story continues directly from the crossover’s opening issue, with Sonic, Amy and Tails dealing with the aftermath of Mothra and Mechagodzilla’s attack on Station Square while Dr. Eggman investigates the mechanical kaiju after it crashes in the woods.
The issue is written by Nick Marino with art and Cover A by Jack Lawrence and Reggie Graham, while additional covers come from Kevin Anthony Catalan and Natalie Haines. Updated retailer listings have already begun reflecting the new September 9 date.
So if you were planning to pick up the next chapter of Sonic and Godzilla’s increasingly destructive crossover this Wednesday, you will need to wait just a little longer.
