Sonic and friends are getting a new look for their latest trip to Japan’s pop-up shop circuit.

MEDICOS Entertainment has announced a new officially licensed Sonic the Hedgehog POP UP SHOP, built around newly drawn HIP HOP-themed artwork created specifically for the event. The illustrations feature Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Shadow, and will be used across a sizeable collection of new merchandise when the shop opens in Tokyo later this month before moving to Osaka in September.

MEDICOS is putting the new designs to fairly extensive use. The merchandise lineup includes individual Mini Acrylic Dioramas for the five characters at 1,925 yen each, a five-design Acrylic Key Holder Collection at 660 yen per blind pack, and a ten-design Can Badge Collection priced at 495 yen each. There is also a ten-design Sticker Collection at 880 yen per blind pack, alongside a Card Stand for 2,200 yen, T-shirt for 4,400 yen, Daily Tote Bag for 2,750 yen and Pouch for 1,980 yen. The venue will also display mini character panels using the same newly drawn artwork.

There are several bonuses for anyone buying enough Sonic merchandise while they are there. For every 1,000 yen including tax spent on eligible Sonic the Hedgehog products, customers will receive one random clear card from a collection of six designs while supplies last. Those include individual cards for the five featured characters alongside a group design, all using the new HIP HOP artwork.

The physical shops also get something that will not be available later online. Spending 3,000 yen including tax at the Tokyo venue earns a Tokyo-exclusive illustration card, while meeting the same threshold in Osaka earns a separate Osaka-exclusive illustration card. Both are single-design bonuses available while supplies last, giving anyone determined to collect absolutely everything a rather inconvenient reason to visit both cities.

The first stop will be MEDICOS SHOP Shibuya, located on the fifth floor of MAGNET by SHIBUYA109 in Tokyo, where the pop-up runs from August 27 through September 8, 2026. The event then moves to Abeno Rakubus at Abeno Hoop in Osaka from September 11 through September 20. MEDICOS will use a shuffled lottery admission system for the Tokyo shop on opening day, August 27, with numbered tickets distributed between 10:00 and 10:10 AM.

And thankfully, the merchandise itself will not disappear with the physical events. MEDICOS says the products will receive a later made-to-order sale through MEDICOS ONLINE SHOP, with the six random clear-card bonuses also available through those reservations. Orders placed during that sales period are planned to receive both the purchased merchandise and the corresponding clear-card bonuses, although the Tokyo and Osaka venue-exclusive illustration cards will remain exclusive to their respective physical locations. Further online-sale details will be announced later.

Between five newly drawn character designs, eight merchandise categories, randomized bonuses and two genuinely location-exclusive cards, MEDICOS has put together considerably more than a quick Sonic merch restock here.

Apparently the next stop on Sonic’s 35th anniversary tour is the recording studio.
