SEGA Sammy reported net sales of 81.0 billion yen and an operating loss of 0.5 billion yen for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2026. Management described the start of the year as generally in line with expectations for the Entertainment Contents business, with few new titles released in the period and foreign exchange losses affecting non operating results.
In the Sonic segment, the data appendix listed 770 thousand full game units sold during the quarter. This placed Sonic behind Persona for the period but well ahead of Like a Dragon in unit terms. The presentation also noted ongoing revenue from the first and second Sonic films, along with continued Sonic animation activity, all of which supports SEGA’s broader transmedia strategy.
The release schedule for Sonic ramps up in the second quarter. Sonic Racing; CrossWorlds is set for a global launch on September 25, 2025, across multiple platforms, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for a later date. On mobile, Sonic Rumble is expected to begin service in 2025. These releases are positioned to boost the Full Game and Free to Play segments in the second half of the fiscal year, while existing Sonic titles continue contributing through repeat sales.
Elsewhere in the Consumer segment, the quarter saw a steady start for Persona 5 The Phantom X and softer performance for some older titles. SEGA reiterated its cross media approach, in which games, films, and animation strengthen one another. The recent opening of SEGA STORE TOKYO in Shibuya also provides a dedicated in person showcase for the company’s intellectual properties, including Sonic.
Overall, Sonic delivered solid sales in a light release quarter and now heads into a much busier period. With both CrossWorlds and Rumble set to launch within the fiscal year, Sonic remains a key growth driver for SEGA across games, film, and animation.
